Work in Mid-City and other needed areas.
The Carrolton Church of Christ is setting up a staging location for volunteers. They can assist with housing on the way down (if you should be driving) and picking up at the airport (if needed). Volunteers will be housed and fed while working. You can be any denomination, jewish, athiest etc. The main point is to aid the community. We can take individuals and groups.
The church was a great blessing filled with outreach and I hope that it can
be that again. -andrea

Community Outreach would basically be fixing up other people's homes in the community (as most of the city is deserted and will be till they get water and electricty up and running.

Anytime you want to put together a team, notify me. As far as details, I've listed some pertinent information below.
Schedule:
We should have plenty for you to do. You should email me confirming specific arrival & departure dates & times.as well as the number who would be coming.
Accommodations:
We wouldn't house you in New Orleans proper. We plan on housing most of our work crews in LaPlace. We have air-conditioned & heated facilities with showers.and with breakfasts & dinners.
Security Concerns:
I haven't had any concern while traveling throughout New Orleans and I've been in and out of New Orleans several times. Additionally, much work is in two neighboring parishes-no security problems there either.
Food: Since the both facilities we have lined up have working kitchens, our thinking was that breakfast and dinner could be prepared there or would be prepared for you. Coolers and ice chests for food and drink would probably work best throughout the day, including lunch, when you're out at a work site.
Running Water:
There is running water at the LaPlace. The water is clean and safe to drink. Thus far, there is no running water at anywhere we will go inside New Orleans. Coolers & Ice Chest will suffice when working within New Orleans.
Electricity:
There is electricity at the LaPlace facilities. As of now, there is no electricity anyplace we work at in New Orleans. Most areas (98%) in neighboring Jefferson Parish have electricity. If electricity is needed where there is none, we'll need use of generators. Right now, we need generators.
Other Forms of Help:
Because we'll be replanting and rebuilding Carrollton, it will look very much like a missionary church. Additionally, we'll only have a remnant returning. We'll not be able to meet existing expenses without help. I'm asking God to lead forward-thinking individuals and churches who are interested in partnering with us as sister congregations to consider what ways they may be able to assist us now, as well as down the road 2 years from now. Although we have extensive problems that lay before us, God has and is providing ways to overcome. Carrollton has great opportunities lying ahead!! Please consider partnering with us.
Regarding Initial Work Crews: we could immediately utilize work crews to:
remove damaged furniture, appliances, etc from homes
cut & remove sheetrock, paneling, and insulation from walls
hauling away debris to dump
general cleanup of inside of homes
cutting up trees that have fallen
Work Crews Should Bring Whatever They Can to Assist in the Above Tasks...such as:
Trucks & Trailers, if available
Generators (although I may have at least 1 at our disposal)
Chain Saws
Power Tools--Various Saws
Wheelbarrows & Flat Shovels
Scrapers, Crowbars, Prybars, Mauls, Hammers
Sheetrock and Utility Knives
Hand Tools--Screwdrivers, Hammers, etc
Breathing Masks (with screw-in filters)
Work Gloves, also Latex Gloves, Hard Hats, High-Quality Dust Masks, Goggles, Safety Glasses
Handtrucks (both regular handtrucks and those for appliances)
Heavy-Duty Contractors Quality Cleanup & Debris Bags (at least 3+ mils thick)
Initial work crews will mostly be performing tasks mentioned above. Later work crews (after Insurance Adjusters have made their assessments) could be utilized in areas of sheetrocking, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, roofing repairs, etc.
Again-anytime you want to put together a team, notify me of specific dates and quantity of people on your work crew(s). All of your workers should have current Tetanus Shots!
Stay in Touch and God Bless!
